Rats for Sale in Ashford, Kent
Please note that as I am a hobby breeder, not a commercial breeder, I do not breed to demand and it is highly unlikely that rats will be available at short notice. I also reserve the right not to home to people. My primary aim is to improve pet rats nationally, so other breeders will always take priority when homing too. I pet home kittens who aren't going to be kept for breeding or showing purposes. Details of my breeding plans are below! If you are interested in having rats from me, please fill in a Homing Form. The homing form helps me to see if you need any assistance before bringing rats home and gives you some additional information. Once a form has been filled out, I will be in contact to discuss next steps. Full details of my homing process are at the bottom of this page. I ask for a homing fee of £60 for a pair and £90 for a trio to help cover some of the costs associated with raising the litters - they cost £40 each to raise (as of 2024). If you have any questions, please let me know!
Please be aware that my current waiting time could be 1-9 months. I will send out details of available kittens to my mailing list when the kittens are ~5 weeks old. I do not home rats as gifts, but am more than happy to offer support with what rat-related items to purchase as a gift in preparation for rat ownership. If your set-up is 100% ready then the waiting time will be shorter.
Lurelin Peatrice x Marigold Emperor Pilaf - Planned for June 2026
It's time to outcross the badgers again. Marked varieties can in general be more prone to mite flare ups but mine seem to get them more often now than a few generations ago. Of all the health issues to have it's pretty mild, but all the same. Plus some fresh blood would help to further the line. With that in mind, I'll be pairing Pea to a Marigold RBA buck who is very complementary to my badgers and will help to improve them further.
Pea is a nice typey doe with a sweet fun temperament. Pilaf is a nice typey buck with a sweet fun temperament too.
Anticipating agouti and russian blue agouti, slim chance of berkshire.
Lurelin Inawa x Lurelin Fledge - Planned for June 2026
This pairing is to keep my original badger line going while I assess the outcome of the outcross (it doesn't always go smoothly).
Wiggy is a nicely marked doe but has a drag. Fledge is undermarked with no drags, and his offspring tend to have discrete markings. They're also both typey rats with fun personalities so I think they'd make really nice babies.
Anticipating agouti and potentially cinnamon badgers.
Lurelin Nellie x Marigold Emperor Pilaf - Planned for June 2026
Another pairing for the outcross to widen my starting base for them. I'm probably only going to be able to have 1 litter from my current gen of breeding does so by outcrossing using a doe who's having a second litter (Pea) and a doe whose sister I have (Nellie and Wiggy), I can preserve the influence of my best rats in my current line well.
Anticipating russian blue agouti, slim chance of berkshire.
Lurelin Cecili x Lurelin The Legend of Groose - Planned for June 2026
I never usually mate bucks who are around 2 years old as they're more prone to mutated sperm than younger bucks. However, Groose is my best boy and is as fit as a fiddle having never had an issue in his life, so it makes sense to breed to him again instead of a younger and unproven buck. I also have never bred from an older buck before so no cumulative risk there either. Groose is a typey buck who will pair well with Cecili and bring out the best in her. Cecili is a young doe which helps to counteract the risk when breeding from an older rat. Groose also carries dwarf and the chance of Cecili also carrying dwarf is about 25%, so fingers crossed for no dwarfs.
Anticipating cinnamon badgers with a chance of russian dove agouti.
Lurelin Legend of the Picori x Lurelin Fronk - Planned for June 2026
Pics and Fronk are a temperament match made in heaven. They're both idiots in the best and funniest ways possible. They're also very complementary in other ways (type, markings, background).
Anticipating agouti and cinnamon, possibly russian blue agouti and russian dove agouti. Berkshires and badgers.
The Homing Process
1. Fill in a homing form.
2. Email or message the Lurelin Rats facebook page as a reminder for me to look at your form (notifications of a completed form don't always come through).
3. Wait for me to be in touch. If I'm not happy to home to you just yet, I will suggest tweaks. I will add you to my mailing list if you would like to be contacted via email. I will also inform you of my breeding plans.
4. When the kittens are ~5-6 weeks old, I will send out an email with details of the available kittens and make a post on my rattery page. At this point, people can express their interest. Expression of interest doesn't guarantee rats, as things can go wrong, the litters are always oversubscribed and rats will be allocated according to suitability for the type of home. I will keep people on my reserve list in case others drop out.
5. Once I start selecting my keepers (when they are 5-10 weeks old), I will contact those who have expressed interest with a photo of their rats to confirm that they are ready for new additions and arrange collection. At this point, I will send the pre-homing information, which includes details about the rats and some suggestions for when they come home. I will do my best to accommodate variety preferences/offer kittens that look different, however this is not always possible. I also offer mix at cost rounded up to the nearest £5.
6. Rats will be picked up on/at the agreed pick-up date and time. New homes should bring a carrier with suitable substrate and bedding along with a moisture source (eg carrot and cucumber), and cash payment for the rats (which goes towards the cost of raising the litter).
Additional Homing Policies:
1. If someone has expressed interest in kittens, I will contact them with allocations and a photo when the time comes. If they don't respond within a week, I will send a follow-up email with a deadline of 3 days. After this, I will offer the kittens to someone on my reserve list. People who do not respond at all after reserving kittens will be removed from my mailing list.
2. If a full set up photo is not provided and no further progress is actively being made after 2 weeks of reservation, the kittens will be readvertised.
3. I will contact people annually to check that they would still like to be on the mailing list. If I don't hear from them, they will be removed.
4. I cannot guarantee that rats will be breeding or showing quality, even if they show promise as kittens. Breeding from Lurelin rats requires permission and active involvement in the fancy.
5. If an owner needs to rehome their Lurelin rats, they must contact me. While I do not have the space to take back the rats permanently, I would like to help with the rehoming process and know who their new owner is for updates.
6. Homes should update me at least annually and in the event of the passing of a rat as this helps to inform my breeding decisions.
